And You Are Home – March 4 2018

Eventually, everything is surrendered that stands in the way of the Presence… When everything is surrendered that stands in the way, It is there, shining brilliantly forth.
Instead of viewing this as something in the future, own it now. Enlightenment is not something that occurs in the future, after 50 years of sitting cross-legged and saying “OM.” It is right here, in this instant. The reason you’re not experiencing this state of total peace and timelessness is because it is being resisted. It is being resisted because you are trying to control the moment. If you let go of trying to control your experience of the moment, and if you constantly surrender it like a tone of music, then you live on the crest of this exact alwaysness. Experience arises like a note of music. The minute you hear a note, it’s already passing away. The instant you’ve heard it, it’s already dissolving. So every single moment is dissolving as it arises. Let go of anticipating the next moment, trying to control it, trying to hang on to the moment that has just passed. Let go clinging to what has just occurred. Let go trying to control what you think is about to occur. Then you live in an infinite space of non-time and non-event. There is an infinite peace beyond description.
And you are home.

Letting Go: The Pathway of Surrender
The quote above is very long, but then the idea presented is worthy of at least a bit of our time.
Enlightenment is here, now, in this moment, waiting only for us to accept it. Waiting only for us to let go our need for control.
Meditation, mindfulness, present moment awareness, the practice of compassion for our self and for our fellows–these are practices that lead us in the proper direction.
Stepping out of our thinking, stepping out of the stories we tell ourselves day in and day out about what is happening here, about who we are, about why things are the way they are, about being a victim, about ‘if only’ and should have would have could have…. Beyond all this, just the other side of this is the place of ‘infinite peace beyond description. And you are home.’
It’s as simple as wanting it more than we want the false safety of holding on. It’s what we are born to do. It’s what we are designed for. Why wait? Go home.
Today I will let go of my ideas of life as they arise. I will let go my judgment of the moment, of myself, of my fellows. I will ask of something greater than myself to help me become fully present in each moment to the wonder that is life, and I will step forward into the unknown of each new moment, knowing that the infinite Presence is here and ready to show Itself to me.
